Hiilinielurekisteri is a 100% domestic and responsible way to voluntarily compensate for one’s CO2 emissions by purchasing and creating additional carbon sinks in Finnish forests.
Additional carbon sinks are created by boosting tree growth through the fertilization of young forests with granulated ash fertilizer.
The additional carbon sinks generated through fertilization are registered in Hiilinielurekisteri and sold to individuals and companies who wish to compensate for their greenhouse emissions.
The forest owner receives a financial compensation for preserving the additional carbon sink. He will undertake to preserve the compensation forest for 15–20 years.
